Lucio Corsi - A Photo Series

Photographer Alex Astegiano captures the androgynous glam aesthetics of singer-songwriter and Gucci muse Lucio Corsi and showcases his works in an exhibition.

There are characters who are quintessentially Italian, yet they are instantly identified with a foreign country and culture, as if they had been granted the honorary citizenship in virtue of their attitude. It is the case of Fernanda Pivano, intellectual, poet and translator whose role was fundamental in making Beat literature accessible to young Italians. She could have easily been an American beatnik, however she couldn’t really be. Fernanda Pivano was Italian, and her work mirrored such origins. The same applies to Lucio Corsi, 26, singer-songwriter and Italian pop child prodigy, witty author and fine dresser.

Channeling on one hand the glam exuberance of Marc Bolan and Brian Eno and on the other the Italian tradition of 70s Italian troubadours like Francesco De Gregori, Herbert Pagani, and Lucio Dalla, Lucio Corsi isn't only a unique voice in the contemporary European music scenario but also one to watch when it comes to aesthetics.

Working in close partnership with Gucci mastermind Alessandro Michele and director Tommaso Ottomano, Corsi bridges the gap between the Italian lyrical heritage and British glam guitars, as if Lemon Twigs or Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard came across a previously unpublished Leonard Cohen or Paolo Conte poetry book.

Cutting his teeth as a solo act since 2011, Corsi has recently released his acclaimed debut album Cosa Faremo da Grandi and he is currently touring Italy for a series of intimate shows with a  6-piece line-up that delivers muscular performances, flares and Zappa-like moustache included.

The series was shot by music photography veteran Alex Astegiano in the bucolic setting of Horszowsky amphitheater in Monforte d’Alba, Italy.

Moments & More, an exhibition showcasing a selection of Astegiano’s photographs curated by the artist himself, is on until September 6th as part of Monfort In Jazz festival.
